Hello, my name is Cadie Seyler and I'm a freshman in the MeneMAC program! This portfolio will be a way for not only teachers and parents, but as a way for myself to reflect on this semester. So far, this year I've went from writing journal entries nearly everyday to eventually writing essays that test my ability to follow the six writing traits. I learned how to use my words effectively and make the reader memorized by my writing and personal experiences. I especially enjoyed learning more about my "voice" that I can use in my more personal writings like the "Words from the Heart" and "Querencia" assignments. Though I'm still not a big fan to this day on informative and argumentative essays, I feel I've definitely improved in these categories due to the new formatting (MEAT) I learned. The first quarter of English was focused more on word choice though. Assignments such as "The World I Come From" and "Five Senses of Summer" tested our ability to use descriptive words effectively. The graphics that went along with our essays in first quarter also pushed us to think out of the box as we had to use pictures in a way that told our story to the audience.

Going back to the learning goals l set for myself earlier in the year, I've improved a lot in my writing skills and think I've accomplished a lot. My word choice has improved a lot and I'm proud of being able to use my words to better express myself in my writing. I especially improved the most in voice as I made sure to show that I care in each of my essays. Though I'm not a fan to this day on more informative and argumentative essays, I make sure that I put a lot of thought into each word along with my personality showcased in my personal writings. I'm glad that I've learned a lot about media through this English class as well even though we didn't focus too much on it. Like I mentioned in the previous post, we used to make graphics to go with our essays in quarter one and I have improved a lot in using Photoshop and blending my pictures together to tell a memorable story.
